The Throat & Womb Connection

There’s something about September that represents transition - a briskness not just in the weather but in the pace of life.

I find this time of year to be full of excitement, change, a bit of hustle and bustle. At the same time I annually approach September with hesitation for it means leaving behind a slower oozy warmth that can only be found in summer.

That said, recently I’ve noticed an uptick in my own stress with jaw clenching and clicking that has inspired a love note about the magical and beautiful connection between the jaw and pelvic floor.

It’s not uncommon for those that I see with pelvic pain to also experience jaw pain or TMJ (temporomandibular joint).

Visually you can see that the striking and undeniable similarities between the throat and the womb space! The image below always blows my mind. It’s so incredible to see how these opposite ends of the body are connected.

There’s science to back up the looks

I posted a video on jaw releases that can indirectly relax your pelvic tension.

  1. Embryonic Connection: Day 15 begins gastrulation phase where two depressions form next to each other. One, the opening of the mouth. The other, form the urethra, anus, and reproductive organs. As the spine grows longer these depressions are al each end of the spine.

  2. Anatomical Connection: Connective tissues runs from the jaw to the pelvic floor muscles. Ultrasound has even shown a movement relationship between singing and humming.

  3. Stress Response: Certain muscles react faster to stress (jaw, neck, buttocks, pelvic floor muscles). These muscles response as a general defense mechanism.

Our bodies are incredible systems that shouldn’t be addressed as localized compartments. It’s interconnected top to bottom.
